Deepen Your Practice: Urban Retreat
What the Buddha Taught
April 19-22, 2018
If we only studied "the word of the Buddha,"—the sermons and texts we think he offered during his 50 years of teaching —what would we study. According to Walpola Rahula who wrote "What the Buddha Taught," we have already studied much of the Buddha’s teachings: Four Noble Truths, Eight-Fold Path, Three Characteristics of Existence, Dependent Origination, Karma.
But what else did he teach? That's what we will begin a study of in this April 2018 retreat. The Buddhist Attitude of Mind, Meditations (also called Mental Culture), Buddha's sermons as well as other texts he offered that supplement his basic teachings and stand alone as teachings on their own. Teachings like the Dhammapada, The Four Foundations of Mindfulness, and The Last Words of the Buddha.
Each night participants will leave the retreat to spend the night at home with a full commitment of no social interaction. Only the main noon meal will be provided on Friday and Saturday and coffee, tea and snacks throughout the retreat.
Cost: Early-bird discount $200 by April 5; $225 thereafter ($25 Savings)
If you have never attended an ASM retreat, you can attend on Friday April 20, 9:30 am - 7 pm for $150.
If you are mailing a check it must be postmarked April 5 to get the early bird discount.
